CASES 5 operates exclusively on PCs, including tablets and netbook devices, that run under a standard implementation of Microsoft Windows 10, Windows 11, and Server 2012/2016/2019 in either 32-bit or 64-bit (CASES is a 32 bit application). Microsoft's Vista is not officially supported so if you choose to use Vista, please do so knowing that CASES has not been tested under that operating system. CASES 5 will run on any modern computer using one of the above operating systems. The information below is retained for any organization that continues to use the older systems. The minimum recommended configuration for an interviewing workstation is:
* Regardless of the total amount of memory on the PC, the figures for available memory represent the minimum amount of memory needed by CASES. For example, a Win2K PC with a total of 512 MB of memory works fine for an interviewing workstation provided that 256 MB of memory is left after loading the network client and all other programs which need to run simultaneously with QA (including any external calls made by the instrument) . But if the other loaded programs leave less than 256 MB free memory, then the total amount of memory on the PC will have to be increased. ** This configuration is the minimum needed for 'heads down' data entry. There is evidence to indicate that Celeron processors, even those exceeding 2.8Ghz in speed, fail to perform up to expectations and should be avoided for CASES use. In general, you can expect performance as manifested in field to field speed, to increase with the speed and quality of the processor.
